Planning a Trip to Cyprus: budget and tips how to get more for less money.

Table of content

Cyprus, with its stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture, is a dream destination for many travelers. But how much does a trip to this Mediterranean paradise cost? With careful planning, you can enjoy an amazing vacation in Cyprus without breaking the bank or selling a kidney)

Here’s a detailed guide to help you budget your trip and make the most of your stay.

1. Flights to Cyprus

The cost of flights largely depends on the season and your departure location. During the high season (June to August), round-trip flights from Europe can range usually from €150 to €300. In the low season (November to February), tickets may drop to as low as €60 to €100. Booking in advance and using budget airlines can help you save even more.

Additionally, whether or not you bring luggage can significantly affect the final ticket price. For example, our friends recently flew to Larnaca from Gdansk (Poland) with WizzAir, and their round-trip tickets in January 2025 cost only €60 per person. However, the cost of checking a single 20 kg bag for the round trip was €140, making the luggage more expensive than the tickets for two people.

2. Accommodation Options

Cyprus offers a variety of accommodations to suit different budgets:

Luxury Hotels: €150–400 per night.

Mid-range Hotels: €80–150 per night.

Budget Options (hostels, guesthouses): €10–30 per night for one person.

Airbnb, Booking.com, or other holiday rental platforms: Depending on the location and size, prices range from €50 to €200 per night.

Tip: Book accommodations in less touristy areas and not in high season for more affordable rates. For example, price of a good villa in Ayia Napa in low season can be €100 and the same villa will cost €300 in high season.

Also in low season it’s possible to find a good proposition for hotels with SPA.

3. Transportation Costs

Car Rentals: Renting a car is the best way to explore Cyprus. Daily rental rates start at €25–40. Fuel costs approximately €1.50 per liter.

Parking is usually free and it’s not a problem to find a place – it’s very pleasant comparing to crazy parking problems in Italy or France.

Public Transport: Buses are the most economical option, with tickets costing around €1.50 for a single trip and €5 for a daily pass. While buses are suitable for local travel, they are not ideal for intercity trips due to limited connectivity.

Taxis: Taxis are convenient but more expensive, with rates starting at €15-20 for short rides.

4. Food and Dining

Food in Cyprus is both delicious and affordable. Here’s what you can expect:

Street Food: Gyros, souvlaki (Cyprus barbecue), or halloumi (Cyprus cheese) wraps cost around €3–5.

Mid-range Restaurants: A meal costs approximately €10–20 per person.

Fine Dining: Expect to pay €30–50 per person for a three-course meal.

Don’t miss the local delights like moussaka, mezze platters, and baklava!

5. Activities and Sightseeing

Cyprus offers plenty of free or low-cost activities:

Beaches: Beaches are free to access, but sunbed or umbrella rentals cost €2.50 each. Meanwhile you can take your cover and umbrella and use beaches free. Most beaches have free toilets and shower.

Almost every beach has a water sports point so you can always rent a boat or have a flight with a paraschute

Historical Sites: Entrance fees for popular attractions like Kourion and the Tombs of the Kings range from €2.50 to €4.50 or cost nothing.

Nature Trails: Hiking in the Troodos Mountains or along the Akamas Peninsula is free and offers breathtaking views.

6. Miscellaneous Expenses

Souvenirs: Local crafts, wines, and olive oils make great souvenirs. Budget around €10–50 depending on your purchases.

Travel Insurance: Costs vary but typically range from €20 to €50 for a week. Don’t ignore travel insurance—Cyprus is a safe country with very low crime rates and no significant food quality issues, but unforeseen circumstances can always arise.

Sample Budget for a Week in Cyprus for a family of four persons (2 adults and 2 children):

Flights: €500 (average) with backpacks but no registered bag

Accommodation: €840 (mid-range)

Transportation: €210 (car rental + fuel)

Food: €650 (mix of dining out and self-catering)

Activities: €100

Miscellaneous: €50

Total: ~€2350

Some Tips for Saving Money:

  • Visit Cyprus during the shoulder season (March-May or September-November) for lower prices of flights and accomodation and pleasant weather. In winter it’s also a good place but the water will be cols to swim.
  • Consider home exchange services to save significantly on accommodation costs. These services often include options for car exchanges as well, helping you save up to 40% on your vacation expenses!
  • Use public transport or carpooling to cut transportation costs.
  • Cook some of your meals if you have access to a kitchen. Visiting a restaraunt once a day is usually enough.
  • Look for free walking tours or discounted attraction passes.
  • Wishing to save money don’t forget that you get what you pay for. Good accomodation cannot be at the same price as a hostel and renting a car for a private person without insurance is case of accident will cost many time more than official rent with insurance.
  • You can rent many of the items you need during your vacation in spite of buying them or paying airlines for it’s transportaion. For example our company has a wide range of baby items, baby cribs, strollers, etc.
  • In spite of renting a boat or a SUP paddleboard in a Water Sports you can rent a SUP for all your vacation in our company and it will be cheaper than one day of hourly rent.

With a bit of planning, a trip to Cyprus can be both affordable and unforgettable. Whether you’re lounging on the beaches, exploring ancient ruins or paddleboarding beaches of Ayia Napa on a SUP, this Mediterranean gem offers something for everyone.
