Using a car seat is not only a demand of legislation but also it’s a neccessary gadget for everyday use in a car if you have children up to 140-150 cm height. Safety of children is the most important thing for their parents so they try not only to install “just-a-car-seat” but to have a comfortable and safety model for comfort and safety.
When people come to Cyprus for vacation and rent a car they need to have a car seat and taking a car seat from home is too expensive because of airlines luggage fees and too heavy to bring – so they rent a car seat together with a car or rent separately.
That’s when our service will be possibly required by travelers – we have all kinds of car seats for all ages and it’s always good car seats from well known manufacturers, mostly new or almost new models and always the car seats are in good condition.
Here is the main difference between our car seats and car seats that are provided by most car rental services – they have “just car seats” not to get a fine from Cyprus Police. Most car rental services (both small domestic companies and well known worldwide companies) have old car seats, often even without Isofix, from no-name manufacturers – it’s a problem but we can bring you our car seats.
What are Legal Requirements in Cyprus about car seats?
Cyprus enforces strict child safety laws regarding car seats:
Children under the age of 12 or under 150 cm in height must use a car seat or booster appropriate for their size and weight.
Infants up to 9 months old or weighing less than 10 kg must be placed in a rear-facing car seat.
The car seat must comply with safety standards such as ECE R44/04 or i-Size (UN R129).
Fines for non-compliance can reach €85, and penalties are higher in cases of serious violations.

What car seats are there? Let’s look into this in more detail.
So, there are two main types of car seat installation systems:
Isofix: This is an international standard that allows car seats to be securely attached to anchor points built into the car’s seats. Isofix is known for its simplicity and minimizes the risk of incorrect installation. However, not all vehicles are equipped with Isofix (cars made before 2005-2007 years mostly don’t have it).
Seatbelt installation: This is a more universal option that can be used in any car. It requires attention to detail to ensure the seat is correctly fastened, as improper installation can compromise safety.
Many modern car seats are compatible with both Isofix and seatbelt installation systems, offering greater versatility.
Recent advancements in child car seats have improved both safety and convenience. Here are some of the key trends and features in modern car seats:
Rotating car seats: Car seats that can swivel 90° or 360° allow for easy access when placing or removing the child from the seat. This is especially helpful for infants, making it easier to secure them in the seat.
Sleep mode: Many car seats offer adjustable recline positions, including a sleep mode, making long journeys more comfortable for children. This helps support the child’s neck and head, reducing fatigue during naps.
One base for multiple seats: Some systems offer a modular base that can accommodate different seats for different age groups. For example, you can use a Group 0+ infant seat and later switch to a Group 1 or Group 2/3 seat on the same base. This saves money and space in the car.
Enhanced safety features: Modern car seats often come equipped with advanced side-impact protection to absorb collision energy and protect the child’s head, neck, and shoulders. Some models also feature built-in airbags that deploy in the event of a crash.
i-Size technology: This is a newer European safety standard based on the child’s height rather than weight. i-Size seats must be rear-facing until at least 15 months of age and provide additional side-impact protection.
Ventilation and temperature control: Some car seats come with ventilation systems or heated seats to keep the child comfortable in different weather conditions, ensuring a more pleasant travel experience.

Recommendations for Choosing a Car Seat
For newborns (0-1 year): A Group 0 or 0+ seat installed rear-facing is the safest option. Look for a seat with a rotating base for easy access and a recline feature for naps. Isofix installation is highly recommended for added safety and ease of use.
For toddlers (1-4 years): A Group 1 seat with rear-facing capability is ideal. Choose a seat with a rotating base, adjustable recline, and enhanced side-impact protection. Ensure the seat is compatible with your car’s Isofix system or seatbelt installation.
For children aged 4-7 years: A Group 2 seat that uses the car’s seatbelt is suitable. Opt for models that provide additional side-impact protection and comfort features.
For children aged 7-12 years: A booster seat (Group 3) will help position the car’s seatbelt correctly over the child’s body, ensuring safety and comfort during travel.
Choosing the right car seat involves considering the child’s age, weight, and the type of installation system, while also taking into account modern features that can enhance both safety and convenience. Today’s car seats offer a range of functionalities, from rotation and recline options to multi-age bases and advanced safety systems. By following Cyprus’s legal requirements and opting for seats that meet the latest standards, parents can ensure their child’s safety while traveling.
